Drain This…Not That

Save your pipes and keep these items out of your sink.

    • Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG)
    • Coffee grounds, egg shells, rinds and potato peels
      (compost with veggie scraps or toss them in the trash)
    • rice, pasta, animal bones & skin
      (scrape into the trash)
    • Stringy vegetables, peelings, or rinds of any kind

When in doubt, play it safe and put the scraps in the trash.

To Flush or Not To Flush

Although many things can be flushed or might be labeled “flushable,” they should not be flushed. Please throw away:

  • Rags & Paper Towels
  • Disposable Dusters & Cleaning Wipes
  • Diapers & Baby Wipes
  • Coffee Grounds & Egg Shells
  • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Dental Floss

Do keep the toilet lid down if small children are present to prevent them from throwing small toys into the toilet.

Don’t flush paints or solvents down the toilet. Dispose of these materials at proper hazardous waste disposal sites.

Keep these items out of the trash.

  • Mecury-containing items
    * Fluorescent tubes & bulbs
    * Old thermostats
    * Mercury gauges
    * Musical greeting cards
    * Mercury maze games
    * Thermometers (non-digital)
    * Shoes with flashing lights in soles made before 1997
  • Common household batteries and button batteries
    (like those found in hearing aids)
  • Electrical switches and relays
  • Pilot light sensors
  • Non-Empty aerosol cans that contain hazardous materials
  • Electronic wastes such as televisions, computers, computer monitors
  • Printers, VCR’s, stereos, cell phones, telephones, radios and microwave ovens
